Watson group’s big sound at Feb. 4 Happy Hour
Join us for David Watson’s large ensemble February 4 in the Upcycle showroom at 3945 Main St. This fearless scatter grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was 8 when he heard Ella Fitzgerald, which changed his life. By 10, David had begun developing scatting skills. Watson later landed a bartending job at the Showboat Jazz Theater and was encouraged by bassist Walter Booker, playing with Sonny Rollins and Cannonball, to pursue Watson’s love of singing. He is influenced by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, Jon Hendricks, and Eddie Jefferson, among others.
